Words for Drum Practice




Drum

Ojibwe.net and an American Indian women’s hand drum group, Miskwaasining Nagamoojig (Swamp Singers) are working together to capture words and sentences that can be used during drum practice. We intend to continue to expand this resource.

I will give it to Linda.

Wenesh waa maajtaad?
Who will start?

Giin maage niin ina?
You or I?

Niinwi n’ga maajtaami.
Just us we will start.

Ensa maajtaaying ina?
Every time we sing? (each round)

Maage ingoding eta?
Or once only? (one round)

Maamwi nda’nagamomi.
Together we should sing.

Maamwi nda’Anishinaabemaazimi.
Together we’ll sing-Anishinaabe.
