Alphabet Cards

This set of words has been created to help students who are learning their letters connect them with the sounds of Ojibwemowin. Students of all ages can review the sounds and word by testing themselves with the cards below and checking their knowledge of the word and the audio on the back. Some teachers post them as an alphabet or use them as flashcards. To do that, download the pdf and print them out for your classroom.

Visit the The Sound of Our Language Beginner Lesson for a guide on the Ojibwe double vowel system and additional practice audio.

Please note that some vowel sounds will vary by region or community. For example, the “oo” sound in the east sounds like the “o” sound in “boat,” “know,” or “toe.” In the west it sounds like the long “u” in “loon” and “too.”
