Verb Type 1 – When Something is Not Happening
Sometimes it is important or most efficient to say something is not happening.
Always use “gaawiin + verb + sinoo/zinoo”
Think about the ending of your Verb Type 1
- If it ends in “aa” or “o” add “sinoo”
- If it ends in “d” – remove the “d” and add “sinoo”
- If it ends in “an” – add “zinoo”
For example:

It is big It is not big More than one thing is not big |
Agaasaa Gaawiin agaasaasinoo Gaawiin agaasaasinoon |
It is small It is not small More than one is not small |
Debwemigad Gaawiin debwemagasinoo Gaawiin debwemagasinoon |
It is true It is not true More than one thing is not true |
Izhiwebad Gaawiin izhiwebasinoo |
It is happening It is not happening |
Zoogipo Gaawiin zoogiposinoo |
It is snowing It is not snowing |
Gimiwan Gaawiin gimiwanzinoo |
It is raining It is not raining |
Examples:
Dibaajimowinan gaawiin debwemigasinoon. The stories are not true.
Gaawiin michaasinoo mazinaabikiwebinigan. The computer is not big.
